Daniel finally completed the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Apprentice program in August 2009 after four years of schooling and hands on training. We are so proud of his determination and perserverance. He is now a Journeyman Rigger and is well on his way to a great career! Congrats! Daniel.

You can see by the photos that Iliana had a great time on the fourth of July swimming in Aunty Roxanne's pool. She jumped into the deep for the first time on Saturday and she did her first belly flop. OUCH! Yep, it left a big red welt on her tummy. But that didn't stop her from having the time of her life. This weekend we stayed at the Hawaii Prince Hotel where we got married in May of 1991. You can see the view from our 8th floor suite. When we checked in the hotel was almost full so we got upgraded to a suite. Nice! Friday night we ate at the Red Lobster Restaurant and then went to a movie, The Proposal. Such a funny movie. Then Saturday morning we got up early and went to Ala Moana Beach Park for the annual Dragon Boat Races. Dad paddled with the TEAM VELOCITY crew and had so much fun. Of course our team had a potluck and boy did we EAT some delicious food. Yum. Then Saturday night we went to dinner with our teammates and Sunday morning we got up early and headed home for church. Oh boy, such a relaxing weekend and so much "good times".

Doctor Lesa

We had the privilege of attending the graduation ceremony for Faafetai Lesa, husband of Josephine, at the University of Hawaii in Manoa where he earned his doctorate degree. At a dinner in his honor Dr. Lesa expressed his appreciation for his parents who have never attended any of his important milestones in his life. Tai explained that his father died when he was young and his mom died just before he got married. He also explained that he has seven brothers but they were not all raised together. To say the least, we are all proud of his hard work, diligence, and desire to better his circumstances. Congrats Tai.

Ok, so the biggest surprise I got this year was a gift I received at Christmas time from Kawe which were tickets to the Mamma Mia show at the NBC Concert Hall in Honolulu. I knew we were going to the concert but I never imagined that we would be in the front row, center seats, right behind the conductor. Wow, I felt like a VIP. We had a blast. And I did get up and dance to "Dancing Queen" like the song was playing just for me and no one else was there watching the show. Did I make a fool of myself? Maybe! But who cares..........I had the time of my life. Thanks Kawehi for a magical night. So fun:)

Mothers Day Special

Thank you to all of my children for a wonderfully uneventful day! Exactly as I wanted it to be. I got to spend some quiet time doing church work, had a delicious dinner at the Taeoalii home and visited with three of my five children and their families and then visited a family in my ward with a plate full of sweets! I enjoyed my day and reminisced about each of my children and the priviledge that has been mine to raise them and to have them call me "Mom".

Our day started out with church at 11:00 am and the annonuncement that our ward is going to split in two weeks. Then it was home to get ready for Sunday dinner and all the family. Oh, by the way, the dinner was fabulous! and then we got a spiritual message from Kawehi and gifts from Grandma for Easter. And then the big EASTER EGG HUNT. Oh my goodness, so much fun. The kids went out with their easter baskets to find eggs. Some eggs had candy, some eggs had money, and some eggs had toys in them. Everyone had a wonderful day. Well Easter has come and gone....here are a few memories of the day.

Ok, so here's my little blurp on being stranded at the airport.....so.....I've never been so lucky as to get stranded at the airport for hours upon hours of waiting....but for some reason Kawehi always gets stranded when she gets to her connecting flight! Once it was in San Francisco, another time in Los Angeles, and today Seattle! So, I get really antsy when something like this happens but you'll never guess who the hero was! FACEBOOK! Yes, can you believe it! A little blurp about needing to be rescued and out pops a response from an old friend and wallah, Kawehi gets a friend and her mom to pick her up at the airport and take her to their home for the day. Her flight will leave at midnight and she'll be home around 3:30 am. Its a good thing I have the day off! I love FB.

Prison

At one time or another in our lives we feel like we're in prison. In fact, I think as a child I may have used those exact words at least once or twice. LOL But today I want to tell you about my friend. I guess we'll keep her name out of it for now, just in case.
I met her in church one Sunday. When she walked into the chapel all heads turned because yes, she was that beautiful. She had two kids and a nice husband and they lived just up the road from us.
We became good friends right away and served together in church for about a year before she was called to serve in another position.
One night she came to my home and asked to speak to me. We sat in her car in my driveway for hours while she poured out her heart and concerns and all I could do was listen. I mean there were just no words for the things I heard that night. All of her painful memories, her mistakes, the hurt and disillusions just came pouring out. At the end of her conversation I told her to turn to go home to her husband, see the Bishop, and lean on the Lord.
We remained good friends over the years and though we both moved to new neighborhoods we kept in touch and once in a great while went out to dinner.
Last week I got a letter at work. The envelope had been opened and a big red stamp with the words "CENSORED" was stamped in the corner. I didn't recognize the return address 1299 Kamehameha Hwy Honolulu, Hawaii and was unfamiliar with the writing but as I read the letter, again, tears fell from my eyes and I felt the pain and sorrow of a friend.
Unable to concentrate at work or sleep that night I set about thinking of ways to help a fellow latter day saint sister.
She is incarcerated in the Oahu Community Correctional Center awaiting trial for a crime she committed.
In her letter there were words of despair, sorrow, and a longing for things to be different. Also, requests for some worldly things.
This is what I sent instead:
Photos of her four children, yes, she has four beautiful children now.
A Book of Mormon
Postage stamps
A $20.00 money order
and letter telling her to read the Book of Mormon daily, focus on her children as a reason to do better, write often as writing usually soothes the soul, and money I earned doing my travel business as I would not give her resources that my husband and I worked so hard to earn. I have added her to my daily prayers and will hope that she catches the vision of who she is, "a child of God" and I hope that some day when she is "free" again that she will honor that freedom and do only good and industrious things.

Just One

A couple months ago I was asked by the Stake RS Presidency to assist with our annual Womens Conference. My job? Create a service project that would make a difference! I was given 35 minutes during conference to complete this project. Needless to say, I was baffled. What could I possibly come up with that would take only 35 minutes and "make a difference". I thought of agencies, programs, shelters and so on but kept coming up BLANK. and then one night a thought came to me. Look with in the stake! Huh? What did that mean? Was that my answer?Yes, it was the answer I had been looking for and the Lord was pretty sure I would understand what He meant so I began preparing. On the first Sunday in March I went to four wards and pitched my plan. A necessities drive to include food items and toiletries enough for 35 families. The next Sunday I went to three more wards to introduce our service project.

I decided to include the missionaries too. I gave them flyers so they could go door to door introducing themselves and the service project. I set up donation stations in all of our church buildings with weekly pickups.

Everything got hauled back to my home for inspection and separation in to boxes. My living room and dining room are filled with boxes of donated items.

On Saturday, May 2nd, we will be holding our annual Womens Conference and we will have 35 minutes to assemble 35 baskets for 35 of the neediest families in our stake. Hopefully, we will make a difference.

I've chosen the theme "Just One". Just one donated item can make a difference. I'll let you know how it all goes on May 2nd. I hope and pray it all goes as expected and that many families will reap the blessings of our efforts.

I love to watch American Idol from beginning tryouts to season finale. Okay, so the beginning can get a little CRAZEEE but I think American Idol makes it that way. But when it gets to the final "12" well this year it was "13" oh man all the talent comes out. So the final 13 started out with Michael Jackson. Ohhhh, that was tough. He's like a one-of-a-kind performer/artist. But wow! I was impressed with some of the finalists. And then tonight "COUNTRY"! One of my favorite categories. The finalists did a great job bringing some diversity to country music. Some were strange, some were original, some songs were less popular, but everyone brought their "A" game tonight. Well worth the two hours I spent in front of my flat screen tv. I hope everyone voted for their favorite idol contestant. Who know what tomorrow will bring. Who will get voted off.

A look back at a great year!

Counting my blessings today, here's a quick look back at 2008.

We welcomed in the New year with Thomas and Kawehi, Kamu and his family, Dad and I, and all of our extended family.

We were thrilled to find out that Kawehi was graduating from college and Thomas was getting married to Jessica Hutchings.

We welcomed our "lucky number 7" grandchild into our family. Zoe was born on January 4th at around 10:46 pm.

In April we celebrated Kawehi's graduation from BYU Provo and Thomas and Jessica's temple marriage in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple.

Dad and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary on May 31st.

Then in June I attended my 30th class reunion at Kamehameha. Kamu also celebrated his 10th class reunion. That was alot of fun and the food was so ono. Yes, I turned 48 in October (ouch).

In July we held a 20 year memorial service for Onesi and hosted a luncheon at Kakela Beach Park. Then we celebrated our first year in business as online travel agents and reached our goals as a small home based business company.

In August we hosted a wedding reception in Haleiwa for the newlyweds and Jessica's family that flew in from Nevada.

September, October, and part of November are a blurrrrrr. but we had a great Thanksgiving dinner at our home. The food was so "ono". Smoked turkey, honey ham, and all the fixings.

On December 3rd we welcomed our "eighth wonder of the world" Zaylee!

And last night we welcomed in a New Year! We enjoyed so many blessings.

Oh What A Night!

December 31st started out with a bang at around 4 in the morning. I guess someone wanted to test the validity of their fireworks for the "eve". So I got up and started getting ready for work. I was anticipating a difficult day but it all turned out pretty good. We got out of work on time.

Zipped home to greet the family that had gathered at our home for some New Years eve celebrating. Oh my goodness the spread was just delightful. Great food, great company, some game playing, which by the way I won 2 out of 4 games of Rubikub. Then it got pretty close to the midnight hour when the fireworks in the village were just off the hook. Smoke everywhere. Ear-piercing, deafening "ka-booms" everywhere. MIDNIGHT! Wow, spectacular show of illegal aerials in our neighborhood. I'm surprised our neighborhood wasn't crawling with cops. Then it was cocoa time and some serious game face playing! But all good things must come to an end eventually including our New Years Eve celebration. I finally went to bed at around 2:45 am. Richard had to work. Grandma was the first to go to bed, Uncle Francis left for Haleiwa, The Galeai's, Forsythes, Ungas, and Maiava's celebrated till we welcomed in 2009.

Hawaii's version of a sleigh ride!

Well, Honolulu is not the same since the Unga-Maiava Clan hit the streets last night in a "sleigh ride" aboard the Santa Trolley that took us on a tour of all the Christmas Light displays around

downtown Honolulu.

We sang christmas songs, sometimes on key

and at others times, well, not so on key, but with the gusto

of a 50 member choir to anyone and everyone walking around

the route we took to see all the beautiful Christmas displays. The

kids had a ball and the adults did too. I sat back with our brand

new granddaughter Zaylee and just soaked in all the family

enjoying themselves. I counted all my blessings and thank the

Lord for "our family". Enjoy the pictures! and Merry Christmas.

Rain, Rain Go Away

We got pounded with rain last week. Kauai and Oahu got the worst of it. So much damage in Makaha, Waialua, Laie, Waipahu, and all over Kauai. Shoe Flu Shoe

Okay, so we all got the stomach flu, one by one, slowly but surely! All I can say is YUCK! So Liza got it first and ended up in the hospital in the critical care unit, then Iosepa got it and I was the baby sitter so then I got it and then Kawehi who was my back up baby sitter GOT IT! Papa should have gotten the flu bug too but he was already sick with a bad cold so didn't have the strength to try and catch the stomach flu bug. By the time Liza got out of the hospital and I went back to work, Kamu got the flu bug! Oh my goodness...it was the worst 72 hours ever! Shoe flu shoe, go away, and please don't come back. I'm plum out of puck!! LOL

Oh, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day! I know I did with the exception of Thomas and Jess, OJ and Alvina, and my precious Hali'a. We had gggggggrrrindsss! Oh my goodness! All the food was so "ono". We were missing Grandma's potato salad but we had so much more to make up for the missing potato salad. Then we had the fierce gameboarding going on! Competition was tight this year. New games too! And the oldies but goodies. I am just so thankful for my family (especially Kawehi who keeps my kitchen clean) and for all the blessings I enjoy.

Well, it was certainly a day to celebrate! Iosepa had his 2 year old birthday at our house and BOY did HE have FUN! Just check out pictures of him eating his birthday cake, opening his presents, and swimming in the pool. LOL By the way, the pool had a slow leak so we had to pump it up every twenty or so minutes to keep it inflated. He made a huge mess with his cake and ice cream so we just put him back in the pool.

Veterans Day

The last time I had a day off (Election Day) we spent most of the morning cleaning

our bathroom, bedroom, and doing laundry. Well, some of us did.

The other guy, we won't mention names, watched football all

morning and slept till I was done. So....to make it up to me, he promised

to take me out on my next day off (Veterans Day) which was
yesterday. I got to choose three things I've always wanted to do. So my choices were to climb over the wall by Blow Hole and get spectacular photos, hike along the Old Pali Road trail, and check out Morgan's Corner.

I had so much fun. I even climbed up on a stone wall at the Pali Lookout to have my picture taken. Okay, that was dangerous. But thank goodness I didn't fall over the Pali. and my knees went all weak cause I was so scared with the wind blowing and all.

Thanks Honey for an awesome day! You're the bestest in the westest! LOL

Our new chapel in Kalaeloa

Well, it is finally open for use. Our stake now has three buildings
and hopefully we'll continue to grow and maybe one day we'll have two stakes in the area. This building is very small and perfect for one or two wards. The cultural
hall is so small, the basketball court is not full regulation length
but it was built short for the High Priests. LOL Anyway, all went
well at Open House. Come by and see our new chapel.

Mammogram Experience

Okay so for my dad's birthday I took the day off and went to clean up his resting place and wouldn't you know, it just poured, the whole time I was there. RAIN,RAIN,RAIN. But I was determined to finish up even in the rain. Then I went to my mammogram appointment. All was well until they told me I had to do it over again. WHAT? That's exactly what I said when the nurse dropped the bomb on me. Yeah, so not once but twice, she laid down the hammah!!! But...it was all worth it today when I got the results..ALL CLEAR FOR ONE MORE YEAR. Yippee!

My day started at 5 am paying bills and writing out our grocery list, then it was off to work, doing the banking on my lunch break, grocery shopping after work, then we cooked dinner, cleaned the kitchen, then I started the laundry....and blah, blah, blah! Now I'm back at work thinking of all the things I'll have to do tonight. Huh! No break. Well, such is life.

My Monday Blues

UGHHH! Its going to be Monday in just two hours! That means another week at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Boy, I'm so lucky. I just can't wait to see what the wind will blow in to our office. Have a great week everyone. Love you all.

Color

We finally chose a color, yeah! Its called "eiffel tower". So are you wondering what color that is? Good, I was hoping you would wonder. Eiffel Tower is a cross between brown and silver. Ooh, it looks so good in my room. Well, at least it looks good on the one wall I've painted so far. My next project is the other wall. LOL :)

I still have a cold but I decided that since I can get out of bed I should go to work. It actually turned out to be a pretty decent day, I had a lunch date with my hubby today at Blazin' Steaks (yummy) and tonight we are off to the stake center for church meetings. I'm really looking forward to the weekend. We're going to pick a color for our room. I think its time to paint those white walls. Hmmm! What color should I pick?

Isn't this a priceless photo of Iosepa? He was not happy when grandma put him down. He pitched a fit, throwing himself all over the ground until, Nana saved him from himself. Oh the TANTRUM.

All the parents form a tunnel that the girls can run through after the game. Win or lose, this is the highlight of thier game. All the girls give the "high five" to their parents. You just gotta love it.

The week of the reception

I officially declared the start of my vacation on August 14, 2008 at 4:30pm when I signed out of work and headed home to clean up the house and plan out the days I would be "free" to do what I wanted to do! Well, sort of. You see, in just 9 days, we would be hosting a wedding reception for Thomas and Jessica in Hale'iwa. So lots of stress, lots of worry, lots of planning. But I was so excited that they were coming home.
